Grande doctor shot dead

Dr Sinanan Lutchman, 74, was shot dead yesterday at his Sangre Grande office.
He was shot in the head when gunmen, announced a hold up, stormed his office at Paul Street, Sangre Grande just after 2 pm yesterday. Lutchman was known as “the people’s doctor” and turned none away from his door.

Chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation Martin Terry Rondon said the corporation’s employees could hear the siren passing by when the shooting occurred after 2 pm.
“Our condolences to the family. It has hit so close to home so we have to be so careful, there are so much of angry people out here,” he said President of the Mediical Association of TT Dr Chandra Saroop said she was shocked by the murder.

“Our medical fraternity is very saddened by this and we are very concerned about the crime situation in the country.
“The association wishes not only the medical fraternity but all citizens to be safe.” President of the Sangre Grande Chamber of Commerce Ricardo Mohammed is concerned about crime in the once quiet community.
“He has been one of the main doctors in Sangre Grande, he was one of the favourite doctors in town. Crime in TT is out of hand.

The protective services need to try harder in solving these kinds of crime. Within recent times the Sangre Grande Chamber of Commerce has been in dialogue with the members of the TT Police Service and has been requesting CCTV cameras at certain points in Sangre Grande which has few entry and exit points.

“That way we may be able to catch these perpetrators on camera and bring them to justice. This is the second professional who has been killed in recent times. Late last year businessman Ashram Persad was killed when bandits entered his business place to rob him and shot him.
The chamber will be looking for future dialogue with the Commissioner of Police and other members of the protective services to see how best we could increase security for Sangre Grande,” Mohammed said.

A Sangre Grande Doctor is dead after he was shot in his head during a robbery at his office on Paul Street, Sangre Grande.

He has been identified as Dr Sinnanan Lutchman.

Police said at about 2 pm gunmen stormed Lutchman’s office, announcing a hold-up.

After Lutchman was shot, he was taken to the Sangre Grande hospital, but attempts to save him were futile.
