CONGRESS of the People (COP) former leader Winston Dookeran has extended his congratulations to Gary Griffith on being approved by the Lower House as commissioner of police (CoP) designate.

He said Griffith has great insights into issues of law and order.

“If he has been appointed commissioner, I want to wish him success. Gary Griffith was chairman of our committee on national security in the COP days in 2007. We worked together developing a Hundred Day Plan.

“I gained tremendous respect for his analytical insights into the issues. I want to wish him the best.”

Otherwise Dookeran said he was not in a position to comment on the debate surrounding Griffith’s nomination and the process used to make the selection.

Dookeran said he had been out of TT for the past year but has returned to serve as professor of international relations at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine.
