The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) is once again without a general manager, as Charles Mitchell’s term as interim GM has come to an end.

In a cessation of appointment notice published on Thursday, the corporation thanked Mitchell for his “valuable service” as his term had ended on July 31.

Mitchell was appointed on April 16, as stated in a material-change report published by the Securities and Exchange Commission’s website that same month.
Contacted by Newsday, PTSC Deputy GM of marketing and communications Sherry Ann Lee Hunte said although a replacement has not been appointed yet, “Mr Mitchell’s term was always going to end on July 31.”

Asked how soon a full-time GM would be in place, Lee Hunte said it could be as early as today (Friday). “We meet him tomorrow, but we haven’t been told who it is yet.”
Newsday also spoke with Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan, who said the board handles the appointment of a GM.

“There’s no replacement yet but the board is in the process of evaluating candidates. That’s my understanding of the situation,” Sinanan said.

Back in April, shortly after Mitchell was appointed, former works and transport minister Devant Maharaj called on Sinanan to explain, among other things, why the PTSC board chose to hire an interim GM.
“This is an abnormal practice for PTSC as a deputy general manager (DGM) acts in the position until a transparent and fair process of recruitment is completed,” Maharaj said.
