Postal code project 75 per cent complete

A PROJECT to implement postal codes in TT is 75 per cent complete and the newly appointed TTPost board has been mandated to finish it, says Public Utilities Minister Robert Le Hunte.

Speaking in a telephone interview on Tuesday Le Hunte said the S42 Addressing Standard system was being addressed.

"For the new board of TTPost which has just been installed one of the mandates they have been given – and the chairman has accepted – is that this project has been lingering a little too long and needs to be brought to an end."

Le Hunte said with this board, including reconfirmed chairman Eula Rogers, the project would be completed within their tenure.

He said eight of 15 areas in TT had been mapped, addressed identified and codes determined. The areas completed were Tobago, Arima, Sangre Grande, Chaguanas, Point Fortin, Princes Town, Penal/Debe and Siparia.

Le Hunte said the next area, Mayaro/Rio Claro, was expected to be launched in August. On the 75 per cent completion rate he said some areas were more populated than others. He added that only after all areas had been completed will the postal code system be put into effect.
