‘Secret’ jobs in agriculture

There are more than 100 jobs in the agricultural sector, of which the average citizen is unaware, says Agricultural Assistant III in the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Dexter Samm.

He made the declaration on Thursday while speaking at a Public Service Outreach Campaign 2018, hosted by the Ministry of Public Administration at Trincity Mall, Trincity. Campaign 2018 hosted by the Ministry of Public Administration at Trincity Mall, Trincity.

Aquaculturist, marine biologist, post-harvest technologist, plant pathologist and agronomist were some of the jobs identified by Samm. Samm told visitors to the outreach event that the full list of career opportunities could be found in the Careers in Agriculture brochure at the agriculture ministry’s booth.

The event also included a free seedling distribution as well as a short sensitisation sessions on the processes involved in the facilitation of farmer/fisherman registration, State land applications and information on the ministry’s range of agricultural incentive programmes. The ministry said one of the most popular things that day was its “live and interactive bee display” which gave visitors the opportunity to witness the activities of hundreds of bees from inside a honey comb, through a glass shield.
