Mom begs for HDC apartment

SINGLE mother Zeia Flemming, 51, and her 11-year-old son Josiah Flemming are appealing to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to provide the shelter promised to them.

Flemming yesterday begged Sunday Newsday to send her plea for shelter to the Minister of Housing, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley. "I want Dr Rowley to call HDC office so they can follow up on my matter," Flemming said.

Three months ago, Flemming was given notice to leave her one-bedroom shack on Maple Avenue in Pleasantville. “Since then I have been staying with relatives in the hope that I will get a call from the HDC,” Flemming said.

The landowners of the Maple Avenue property asked her to move in January but she has not been able to find a place to put her belongings. Yesterday, she got a visit from the landlord asking her to move her belonging within the month or else it will thrown out.

On June 26, Flemming paid $350 to an HDC Officer for a search on her name. Flemming said she applied to the corporation six years ago, but was never called for an interview.
