A MAN who in a fit of rage smashed a glass door at the National Insurance Board's (NIB) San Fernando a month ago after being told his claims were not approved, will return to court on August 27 for sentencing.

Terrance Gangaram, 43, yesterday stood in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court but with no magistrate present, he was taken before a Justice of the Peace. The Justice of the Peace adjourned to the matter to August 27 where Gangaram is expected to be sentenced by magistrate Natalie Diop on a charge of maliciously damaging NIB’S glass door at its office in Harris Promenade, San Fernando.

The matter was first heard in June when Gangaram pleaded guilty. Damage to the door was estimated at $4,500. Gangaram during the June court hearing, told the magistrate he was angry when his injury claims were not approved. He also said he made the claims when he was beaten and chopped by bandits who broke into his home.

Gangaram said the bandits also robbed him during the attack where he also suffered a broken jaw. At the first hearing, prosecutor Sgt Veano Ragoo told the court that at around 11 am that day, Gangaram after speaking with staff at the NIB office, when he walked to a glass door and kicked it, causing the glass to shatter. He was held by security and taken to the nearby San Fernando police station and charged.
