The 33-year-old son of a former government minister is being investigated for sexually assaulting a four-year-old American girl which is said to have happened at the man’s home on June 17.
A medical report confirmed the child was assaulted and she remains traumatised at her grandparents’ home in south Trinidad. The medical report is now in the hands of the police.
The matter was reported to Cpl Banwarie of the Child Protection Unit one week after the incident.
The girl’s mother was interviewed at length and the matter was referred to Children’s Authority, whose officers are awaiting a psychologist to interview the child. Newsday was told the child's relatives alerted the American Embassy in Port of Spain about the incident.
