Welder released after week in custody

A 21-YEAR-OLD Longdenville welder who was detained last Monday in connection with the disappearance of 20-year-old nursing assistant Sharday Emmanuel, was released from police custody on Saturday.

The man was detained last Monday by Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) officers following a search of his home. He was interviewed by investigators led by acting Snr Supt Ajith Persad. On Saturday, the Director of Public Prosecutions gave instructions for him to be released pending further inquiries.

The suspect retained three lawyers to look after his legal interests. Yesterday, Emmanuel remained unaccounted for and her worried father Junior Emmanuel said he is still not giving up hope that she would be found alive.

Two Wednesdays ago Emmanuel left her Mamoral No. 1 home in a blue Nissan Almera, telling relatives she was going to Chaguanas to pick up something. When she failed to return, a report was made to the Mamoral Police and AKU officers were contacted. Cadaver dogs were used to search for the young woman last week Thursday but she was not found.
