Fourth form students of the Scarborough Secondary School were advised to ‘be an informed consumer and make wise shopping choices!’ by Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon, when they attended a one-day field trip to Trinidad to take part in the ministry’s Food and Nutrition Class programme.

The programme focuses on consumerism and the purchasing practices by the public.

Gopee- Scoon told the students that “the ministry continues to work closely with the Tobago House of Assembly as well as the local manufacturers in an effort to help build their capacity and make their products export ready.”

She urged them to take advantage of the information provided by the ministry through various media to make wise choices. Students were provided with information regarding their rights and responsibilities as consumers; consumer safety and protection laws; and the National Consumer Policy which brings a greater level of protection to consumers with increased focus on e-commerce.

The students also visited Massy Food Stores and the Kiss Baking Company as part of their field trip.
