Tim must take some blame

THE EDITOR: I saw on the Parliament Channel over the weekend former education minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh criticising his successor Anthony Garcia for not increasing the $1,200 per term for students assigned to private secondary schools.

Gopeesingh should be honest and take some blame for the plight of the private secondary school owners because he was the minister of education for five years and did nothing about it when the country could have afforded the increases.

Education Minister Anthony Garcia must be credited for agreeing that the amount is meagre and the operators deserve an increase. He has publicly expressed his willingness to discuss their demands and to take the matter to the Cabinet for consideration.

I am also disappointed to hear Gopeesingh speak about the Education Facilities Company Ltd owing money to contractors. Has he forgotten that he was the minister for five years and was in charge of the EFCL? He is fully aware of the many unfinished schools and the millions of dollars owed to contractors when he left office in 2015.
