‘I couldn’t keep him safe’

ANN Williams, mother of 16-year-old Mikeel Caesar aka “Psycho,” was in shock yesterday after he was gunned down on Monday night. She is calling on parents to keep their children close at all times.

Williams said she was deeply hurt after hearing about her son’s murder and said it was difficult for parents to keep their children safe, as murders have become so frequent. She said criminals are acting without warning or remorse.

“It’s hard to protect your children these days. We as parents try to keep them in the house and off the streets, but you can’t be with them every hour of the day. These days, things like this can happen anywhere and at any time,” she said.

She said Caesar was originally from Morvant but moved to John John, Laventille recently with the family.

A student of the Servol Centre in El Socorro, her son had dreams of becoming a mechanic and starting his own business.

Caesar and Stephen La Rosa, 48, were liming with a group of men at Plaisance Road near Africa in John John on Monday when they were shot at by a passenger in a white Hyundai Elantra.

La Rosa was shot in the left leg, while Caesar was hit four times in the chest and died at 10 pm while being treated at Port of Spain General Hospital.

Contrary to earlier reports, Caesar was not affiliated with any gang in the area and police believe he was not the intended target of the killers.
