THE Tobago Youth Development Centre, headed by coach Kesron Louis, Bradley Thomas and Harry Davis, took 10 medals at the Flying Fish Short Course Swim Meet 2018, which took place at 19 Jamaica Blvd, Federation Park, Port of Spain, on June 16 and 17.

The Tobago team consisted of Yunique Wilson and national swimmer Ezekiel Wilson – in the competitive category, Jaylon Campbell and Khamron Martin – in the non-competitive category.

The June 16 and 17 swim meet saw over 200 swimmers from 12 clubs participating in the event.

Ezekiel made the podium producing 2 qualifying times for the upcoming Goodwill National Short Course trials in July.

Ezekiel placed 2nd overall in the 15- 17 age group; 1st in the 200- meters individual medley; second in the 100-meters backstroke; 50-meters breaststroke and 50-meters backstroke; 3rd in the 100- meters freestyle;50- meters freestyle, and 50 meters butterfly events.

Yunique Wilson in the 13-14 age group, unfortunately, fell sick on the meet day and placed third in the 100- meter breaststroke event.

Non-competitive swimmers, Campbell and Martin produced personal best times in all events.

In the 9-10 age group, Campbell secured the 1st place in the 50 meters breaststroke and Martin placed 2nd in the 50 meters backstroke in the 15-17 age group.

Both Campbell and Martin placed in the top 8th in the other events.

Coaches Kesron, Bradley and Harry said they were pleased with the team’s overall performance at the meet and noted there will be a post-mortem on each swimmer as Yunique and Ezekiel have less than a month to prepare for National Goodwill Short Course Trial in July 2018.

Head coach Johnathon Louis said the swimmers performed “extremely outstanding” and thanked the parents for their daily efforts in taking their children to training at the Kendal facility as the YMCA pool in Corland remains closed for repairs.

He also said the swimmers could only improve with hard work and commitment.
