Ramasra, Yearwood win national squash titles

COLIN Ramasra and Alexandria Yearwood won the men's open and women's open titles respectively, when the Jameson Senior National Squash Tournament concluded at the Queen's Park Cricket Club Racquet Centre in St Clair, on Saturday.

Ramasra, who retired from the sport briefly in 2015, showed he still has what it takes to compete against the country's top players.

In the men's open final, Ramasra eased past Brandon Demontrichard 11-1, 11-1, 11-5 to claim his 10th title in convincing fashion.

In the women's open round robin event, it was a battle between the future of women's squash and former squash star Rhea Khan.

In the end, the national junior players showed their class as Yearwood won the title, ahead of her national junior team-mate Marie-Claire Barcant. Khan, a multiple national women's champion, had to settle for third place.

There were also titles for Paul Deverteuil and Colin Mowser. In the men's Over-40 final, Deverteuil outlasted Peter Pirtheesingh 11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-2 and Mowser got the better of Steve Mackay 11-4, 14-12, 11-8 in the men's Over-50 final.

In the women's Over-50 category, Ru Celestine got past Beverley Wilson in five sets 9-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9. David Scott won the men's Over-60 round robin event, with Victor Thong finishing second and Avery Sinanan grabbing bronze.

In the men's novice category, Jason Augustus was crowned the winner.
