Edghill cops sharpshooting tournament

DESPITE stiff competition from some of TT's best sharpshooters, novice Paul Edghill prevailed at the Blue Line Law Enforcement Academy's bi-annual marksmanship tournament at the Academy's training grounds in uptown Port of Spain last Sunday.

Edghill, who triumphed with his Evanix A4 air rifle, showcased his precision and speed during the Urban Field Target category of the tournament, earning an impressive 92 points out of 100, securing first place.

Despite scoring a respectable 85 points, returning champion Javeed Rasheed slumped to second place in the Pre-Charged Pneumatic (PCP) Springer category with his FX Impact air rifle.

For the first time, the tournament also featured an extra category called the NETFOS challenge, sponsored by Network Fibre Optic Systems, in which shooters competed in a single round where they needed to knock down as much targets as possible on the range.

Despite an impessive show of skill, Edghill lost by half a point to newcomer, Nerisha Ali with her Gamo Rocket air rifle, in an exciting round of shooting.

Shooters were judged not only on their ability to make a shot accurately but also their speed, focus and ability to estimate the distance of targets within different time constraints.

Coordinator for the tournament Paul Nahous said the tournament was open to all students of the Blue Line Law Enforcement Academy who are interested in honing their marksmanship skills. He added that safety remains a top priority during all events and urged those interested in learning more about the sport to register with the academy/
