Police investigating social media posts

NATIONAL Security Minister Edmund Dillon yesterday said "an investigation has been launched by the TT Police Service" into posts on social media depicting a room with high-powered rifles, alleged to be used in gang warfare.

Later in the sitting of the House of Representatives, Dillon said the police use automated fingerprint identification systems (AFIS) and live scan machines to assist in criminal background tracing. There are 15 of the former and 11 of the latter.

Of these, Dillon said 12 AFIS and three live scan machines are currently operational. Maintenance and repairs to both sets of machines are undertaken by Germalto Biometrics System, the supplier of the machines. Dillon also said the Police Service's information technology department conducts checks on the AFIS and live scan machines
