Rape victim ‘agreed’

THE 15-year-old Form Three student who was accused of raping a Form three female student in the bathroom of their Port of Spain secondary school on April 24, has told Child Protection Unit police that the victim invited him to the bathroom to engage in sex.

He also claimed he and the girl were in a relationship, but because of an argument, she cried rape. On April 24, the girl told a teacher that at about 10.45 am, she went to the bathroom and was followed by the boy. She said he put his hand over her mouth, pulled down her skirt and underwear and sexually assaulted her.

The teacher contacted Child Protection police and the student was examined by a doctor. The suspect was subsequently suspended for 11 days and the matter reported to the Ministry of Education. Child Protection Unit police have since interviewed several students as well as teachers, friends and relatives of the girl.

Investigators led by Sgt Moreau are expected to re-interview some students before making a determination on how to proceed.
