Tobagonian-born, US-based Pastor, Wendy Mitchell, has encouraged mothers to run with patience, the race which is set before them, and as runners, they must stay the course despite the obstacles and challenges that along way. Mitchell was the guest speaker at the annual cocktail and conference for mothers at the auditorium of the Eastern Credit Union in Canaan on May 12 which was hosted by Women of Worth Ministries of the Jesus is the Answer Praise Centre (JITA) in John Dial, collaborated with Upper Room Connections.

Quoting from the book of Philippians where the journey of life is compared to that of a race, Mitchell said human beings were all in a race - the race of life.

Guest speaker, Pastor Wendy Mitchell of the USA, addresses the gathering at the annual cocktail and conference for mothers at the auditorium of the Eastern Credit Union in Canaan on May 12

“As mothers/women, we all are in a race called the race of life. Each one of us, undeniably must run our own race, nobody can do that for us. We also need to understand that each individual runner has a path on which she must run. As runners, we also must set a goal for ourselves and go after that goal, whatever that goal is. On the journey, we are going to meet many obstacles and challenges that will attempt to deter us and cause us to lose our focus, but we need to be resilient and keep our eyes on the prize,” Mitchell said.

“As we run this race, there will be times when we might become discouraged and be tempted to give up. There will also be times when we might be looking for someone to encourage us and to cheer us on, but unfortunately, this person might be nowhere to be found. This is when we need to find the strength to encourage ourselves and move on, keeping our faith in God. While our focus will primarily be on our own personal goal, we need to also be mindful, that there are also other runners who might be running alongside our lane who might need a helping hand or support from time to time. So, in this case, our responsibility is to take them by the hand and help them to reach their finish line.

“As mothers, we all need to make that time to encourage each other in whatever way that we possibly can, because after all, we are each other’s keeper,” she added.

At the event, mothers were also treated to an afternoon fashion, photo sessions, a modeling competition, prizes and giveaways along with a special musical performance by saxophonist Ricardo Seales and ministry in songs by 12-year-old Maxine Thallea Samara James, and dinner to complete the evening.
