Man jumps to death at Mt Hope

A man jumped from the second floor of one the buildings of the Eric Williams Memorial Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, early yesterday morning and died hours later.

Davlin Thomas, chief executive officer of the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA), said the patient had a history of addiction.

“I can’t give details about him for a number of reasons but he became violent and eventually just jumped from the second floor,” Thomas said.

The NCRHA said later in a statement it was saddened over the death of one of its patients.

The authority said initial reports indicated that at about 3.40 am, yesterday, the patient leapt from a patient care area, fell to the ground and subsequently died.

“The authority is working closely with the Police Service to locate a next of kin, and thus is unable to release any further details of the incident at this time,” it said.

“Our Quality Department is conducting an investigation into the incident.”

The authority said its first priority was the safety of its patients and staff.
