Police: Incorrect charges in the past

AT the police weekly press briefing, acting Insp Sheridon Hill and public information officer acting Asst Supt Michael Jackman said there have been previous instances of misjudgment by police in charging people who would seem to have acted illegally.
This was in response to a question from the media about possible punitive action against police connected to the charge incorrectly laid against Justice Kevin Ramcharan.
Jackman said he could not say what action is being taken, but this is not the first error of this kind.
He was also unable to indicate the number of instances where this would have occurred. Hill said the bureau seeks to develop transparency, integrity and accountability within the police and other high-profile matters.
He said for 2018, 41 charges have been made to the Professional Bureau of Standards, and of that number, nine police officers and one civilian have been charged. A number of matters are still being investigated.
