Kevah Scott, Janae De Gannes, Mark Cahsani and Nathaniel Charles were the marque performers for the Tobago zone, in the National Primary Schools track and field championships held at the Hasely Crawford stadium in Trinidad recently.

But Tobago is still searching for success in the relays to boost their chances of winning the championship. The Tobago zone was leading the points standings after the individual events, but just as in previous years, they lost their way in the relays.

In the eight relays on the day, which points doubled the individual events, Tobago only managed third positions in the boys under 9 4x100m and girls 13-15, 800m medley.

Tobago’s poor performance in the relays relegated them to third position among the eight primary school zones with 372 points. Port of Spain accumulated 439 points to lift the championship trophy while Caroni placed second with 423 points. Scott, however, showed Tobago remains strong individually, bagging two gold and one silver medal to headline Tobago’s individual achievements on the day.

Scott recorded an impressive time of one minute and 2.77 seconds in the girls 13-15 400m to claim her first gold medal and later cleared the high jump bar at 1.30m for her second golden success. Scott's silver medal effort of 13.08 seconds in the 100m was bettered by Kianna Llewellyn of Port of Spain in 12.71 seconds.

De Gannes, who is one of the outstanding national youth sprinters, outclassed her competitors in the girls under-13 200m, clocking 25.62 seconds for the top position. De Gannes also won a silver medal in the 100m with a time of 12.84 seconds.

Cahsani threw the iron ball 26.61m to claim 1st place in the boys 13-15 discus and settled for a silver medal in the javelin event with a distance of 34. 85m.

Nathaniel Charles was easily the best male sprinter among the Tobago contingent. Charles topped the podium in the boys under 11 100m in 12.97 seconds and duplicated his position in the 200m after being timed at 27.32 seconds.

Other champions for Tobago among the females were Shania Abraham in the under 13 ball throw, Natanya Mc Lawrence in the 13-15 javelin and Destiny Alfred who won the girls under 11 ball throw.

For the males, Jaden King won the boys 13-15 long jump and Jaidon Billy took the gold medal in the boys under 9 ball throw.
