$50,000 bail for Signal Hill student in cutlass attack

A 15-year-old student of Signal Hill Secondary School was granted $50,000 bail when he appeared in Scarborough Magistrates’ court last Friday charged with wounding with the intent, Deshawn Guy, 17, a student of the same school.

Police reports are that around 3:10pm on May 22, Guy was in his school uniform at Gardenside Street, Scarborough on the compound of the Scarborough Library, when he got into an altercation with two boys, one from Mason Hall Secondary school and another from Signal Hill Secondary, who were dressed in plain clothing.

Guy received a chop wound to the head when he was attacked with a cutlass. He was take to the Scarborough General Hospital where he was examined and discharged. Following investigation by police, the two school boys were identified.

On May 24, WPC Roberts arrested the 15-year-old student at his Carnbee home. He was positively identified by Guy and was later charged for the offence of wounding with intent on May 25.

Guy’s mother, Corrine Keith, told Newsday Tobago on Monday, the incident had left Guy distraught.

“The wound is so deep where he needed stitches inside and outside the chop, the doctor said. The doctor also told us that a little bit more and it (the chop) would have reached the brain. We don’t like what happen and we are fed-up about it,” she said.

“The week before the incident they run him (Guy) down to beat him in school. Some Form 5 and 4 students run him down and take his bag. We can’t get back his bag and books as yet. His Form teachers don’t give us the satisfaction we need, and they in the school allowed this to escalate into this.”

She could not say when Guy would return to school.
