POLICE and fire service officers are currently at the Ste Madeleine Pond searching for a child after an anonymous caller reported that the child was left there this evening.

Newsday understands that around 7.15 pm, someone called the Ste Madeleine police saying they saw a woman walk to the water's edge with a young child. The caller told police the woman walked away a few minutes later, without the child.

She reportedly got into a waiting vehicle and left. The caller reported hearing the child screaming after the woman left. Police and fire services responded and Inspector Don Gajadhar said that up to 9.30 pm, police had not found a child.
