THE POLICE are investigating the death of five-year-old Zakiah Lorde, who was reportedly hit by a tree branch and fell into a coma, Minister in the Gender and Child Affairs Division in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ayanna Webster-Roy has reported. She was responding to an urgent question in the Senate yesterday on whether an investigation would be undertaken into Lorde’s death.

Lorde, a Black Rock Government Primary School infant student who was hit on the head by a falling tree branch last Wednesday, died on Sunday, two days short of her sixth birthday.

On the day of the incident three workmen were trimming a tree at the front of her house at Hopeton Road, Black Rock, when a branch fell on her as she was leaving for school just after 8 am. Lorde’s skull was reportedly fractured and she slipped into a coma.
