Kaizen Panthers, Mason Hall win medals

Kaizen Panthers, Mason Hall Police Youth Club and Tobago Falcons Athletic Club were the three Tobago clubs represented at the National Association of Athletics Administration (NAAA)-sanctioned Abilene Wildcats athletic meet held at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima recently.

Kaizen Panthers had three athletes mount the medal podium, bettering Mason Hall Police Youth Club who had two athletes tasting success.

Darren Alfred started the medal count for Kaizen when he took the silver medal in the men's open 400 metres, clocking a time of 48.36 seconds. Alfred was edged out of the top spot by Tacuma Sterling of Alpha Athletic Club who clocked a time of 47.82 seconds. Sterling also won the men 200 metres in 21.06 seconds.

Jonathan Baker won Kaizen's second medal, earning bronze in the men's 100 metres sprint. Baker got to the finish line in 10.61 seconds, just ahead of his club-mates Ako Hislop in 10.66 seconds and Nicholas Douglas in 10.69 seconds. Hislop and Douglas were 4th and 5th respectfully. The final was won by Jerod Elcock of Abilene Wildcats in 10.55 seconds.

Douglas made up for his shortfall in the 100 metres to claim the men's 200 meters bronze medal in 21.30 seconds.

Patrice Austin continues to be a shining light for Mason Hall, taking the bronze medal in the girls under 11 100 metres with a time of 14.49 seconds. The mercurial Jenna Marie Thomas claimed the top spot in 14.06 seconds

Ben Israel Bannister captured Mason Hall's second medal, stopping the clock in a time of one minute 3.56 seconds in the boys under 13 400 metres to secure second position. Jumario Russel of Memphis Pioneers took the gold medal with a time of one minute and 1.55 seconds.
