No sabotage on citrus disease

AGRICULTURE Minister Clarence Rambharat on Friday said there is no evidence of sabotage with respect to citrus greening disease at the St Augustine Nurseries. Speaking in the Senate, Rambharat said the information suggests the disease has been in TT for the last five years. He explained it can be transmitted in a variety of ways and cases of the disease have been reported in different parts of the country. Rambharat also disclosed the ministry recently obtained permission to import a high quality type of citrus seeds from Florida into TT.

He added this was the first time clearance was given for the importation of these seeds from the United States.
