Elderly under inflation pressure

THE EDITOR: Who will come to the aid of the elderly in TT who are under immense pressure financially?

From all appearances, the Government seems powerless to halt, or at least control, the inflation monster.

Supermarket prices are reaching to the sky, and many of our elderly, especially those on the fixed government pension, are seeing trouble. Elderly pensioners collecting only the NIS pension are also under pressure, as the dollar depreciates in value like a snowball in hell.

The time has come to review old age and NIS pensions, bringing them in line with today’s reality of runaway prices for food, medicine and transport. I call on Minister of Finance Colm Imbert to look into the plight of the elderly.
