Morgan Job’s funeral next Friday

THE COUNTRY will say goodbye to outspoken radio talk show host, former MP and economist Dr Morgan Owen Job at a funeral service next week Friday.

His family said yesterday in a release that his funeral will take place on May 18 at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Port of Spain.

Job had been diagnosed with late-stage pancreatic cancer and died at the Port of Spain General Hospital on Sunday afternoon. He was 76. The family said, “Throughout his life, Dr Job stood firm in his belief that there was only one race – the human race, hence his mantra ‘See God in every face, not race.’”

Saying white light comprised all the colours of the rainbow, the family asked, in keeping with Job’s philosophy, for people attending the funeral to dress in blue, white or purple.

“Purple is the colour of royalty,” they explained, “and Job’s greatest desire was for Trinbagonians to see themselves as royalty, and act in a manner consistent with this belief.”

The family also sent special thanks to Natalie Sabga, MP Dr Fuad Khan, Drs Narinesingh, Barrow, Gopeesingh, Trimm, Moses, (and) other staff of Ward 54 at the PoSGH “and everyone who supported his care, contributed to his expenses and sent their prayers and well-wishes.”

There was a flood of tributes to Job after his death from politicians, media personalities, former co-workers and from the public. He was remembered as an outspoken, scholarly, patriotic, unappreciated son of the soil.

He is survived by his daughters Dzifa and Nzinga.

The funeral begins at 2pm and those attending are asked to be seated at 1.45pm.

Proceeds of the offering collected during the service will be donated to the John E Sabga Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer, and the Adult Literacy Tutors Association.

The family asked MPs, diplomats and other senior office-holders who intend to go to the funeral to contact Dzifa Job at dzifanjob@gmail.com.

They also said people who are unable to attend but would like to access a live stream of the service should also contact her.
