Police sergeant in critical condition

NALINEE SEELAL

The police sergeant who engaged in a shootout with his colleague at Grand Bazaar last Wednesday was shot six times, one bullet penetrated his abdomen, another struck his left shoulder and four others hit his legs.

He is in critical condition.

Yesterday doctors expressed concern over the injury to his abdomen and revealed that there were some internal injuries which they were trying to deal with so the officer’s life would not be in any further danger. He continues to be sedated and only close relatives are being allowed visits.

Sources revealed yesterday that the lead investigator into the incident, Supt Stephen David, has not been able to interview the police corporal from the Inter-Agency Task Force who had engaged in the exchange of gunfire with the sergeant.

The corporal was contacted by investigators so that a statement could be recorded but he continues to insist that he is in a lot of pain and not in a position to give a statement.
