NIB probe continues

MINISTER in the Ministry of Finance Allyson West on Tuesday last said a newspaper report (not carried in Newsday) which alleged that a $3 million maternity scam happened at the National Insurance Board (NIB) was wrong.

Speaking in the Senate, West said, “Investigations thus far have confirmed that the total possible exposure is significantly less than $3 million.” She confirmed that four NIB staff members had been suspended as the NIB and the Fraud Squad continued investigations.

West said the NIB has zero tolerance to fraud and recently established a robust anti-fraud framework involving well-trained in house investigators, external consultants and support from the police.
