Dillon wants praedial larceny unit reinstated in TTPS

Chairman of the Tobago Forwards, Orwin Dillon, is calling for the re-establishment of the Tobago Praedial Larceny Unit within the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS). reporting that theft of livestock and food crops have increased over the last few weeks.

Speaking with reporters at a media briefing at the Scarborough Port on Wednesday, Dillon, who is a registered farmer, also queried the purpose of the acquisition of four new tractors by the Division of Food Production, Forestry and Fisheries, which he says remains parked at tractor pool in Shaw Park.

“With one month to go before the rainy season, these machines remain parked up. We have farmers waiting from since last year to get their lands ploughed and there are four brand new tractors parked up idle at tractor pool at this point in time,” he said.

Dillion also called on Food Production Secretary Hayden Spencer to explain what’s happening with the packing house for food crops.

“There is no air-condition, the gate to access your goods is broken down. We need to know exactly what is going on at the packing house. We as farmers need access the packing house,” he said.

Contacted for comment on Dillon’s queries and concerns, Spencer said he could not respond as he needed to speak with his team.
