No money to buy boat for Little Tobago

There is no boat available to take workers responsible for the upkeep of Little Tobago across to the island and Food Production Secretary Hayden Spencer Secretary Spencer says one will be made available “as soon as the funding is made available to the Tobago House of Assembly.”

Spencer also said a boat which was bought for that purpose, Yellow Iron, is ‘presently lodged at the Buccoo Training Centre awaiting inspection by the Trinidad and Tobago Board of Survey for a write off.”

Spencer was responding to a question for oral answer posed by Farley Augustine, Minority Member and representative for Parlatuvier/L’Anse Fourmi/Speyside, at last Thursday’s sitting of the Assembly at the Chamber, Jerningham Street, Scarborough.

Augustine noted that the Yellow Iron, bought in 2010 to ferry the workers to and from Little Tobago, was used for less than three years and then “parked up at Tyrell’s bay in Lucyvale for many years.

Augustine said the workers depend on the kindness of fishermen in the area or the availability of other boats owned by the Division of Forestry to get to and from the island.
