Refugees not TT problem

THE EDITOR: I have been following the discourse in the media concerning the influx of Venezuelans to Trinidad and the Government’s handling of the situation.

I am sure the commentators are aware that TT is in the midst of a recession and cannot satisfy the needs of its own population in the areas of health, employment, education, infrastructure maintenance, to name a few.

Could TT with a population of 1.328 million and an area of 1,980 square miles, coupled with declining resources, attempt to take on Venezuela’s refugee problem? Venezuela’s population is 31.568 million in an area of 353,841 square miles. On the question of the US State Department’s comments on TT’s police killings and on refugee and immigration issues, does it not know that we have internet here?

Has the US, with all its resources, been able to humanely solve its refugee problem?

The US does not have the moral authority to comment and or criticise anyone on these issues. It should look in the mirror first and mind its own business.
