Appalled by hate speech

THE EDITOR: I was appalled and scandalised at the hateful accusations levelled against citizens leading up to and after the decision in the Jones vs the Attorney General matter.

They were mocked and decried as being “bigots,” “ignorant” and “backward.” Why? Because they believe something different than those who vilified them.

They were insulted because they exercised their constitutionally protected right to think independently and voice their views.

The national anthem states that “here every creed … finds an equal place …” Creed is defined as a confession or statement of faith of the shared beliefs of a religious community.

This is TT, this is not George Orwell’s Animal Farm where some are more equal than others. When did it become acceptable to oppress your neighbour by hateful speech and aspersions because he believes something different than you?
