One-legged man shot dead

A one-legged man who was riddled with bullets while in the company of a 48-year-old woman succumbed to his wounds at about 4 am yesterday at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope.

According to reports, at around 8.50 pm on Sunday, Jesse Jeremiah, 27, of Phyllis Street, Enterprise was with his neighbour Leah Alexis, 48, when the driver of a silver-coloured wagon pulled up in front of them and several gun shots were heard.

Jeremiah felt a burning sensation to his abdomen while Alexis was shot in the left shoulder.

The two victims were assisted by relatives who took them to the Chaguanas Health Centre.

They were later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where they were both treated and warded.

However, Jeremiah died hours later while Alexis remained in stable condition.

Police investigators said yesterday Jeremiah was well known to them and believe his death was gang-related.

The officers recovered several spent shells at the scene of the shooting.

Officers of Region 3 Homicide Bureau are investigating.
