Trump may soon hear, ‘You’re fired’

THE EDITOR: US President Donald Trump has been in a firing mood since he entered office over one year ago. Not only Americans but observers the world over remain confused and in awe at this most bizarre behaviour.

Commentators and political analysts have pointed out that Trump was unable to work with many of the team he chose to be around him. Some claim his leadership style is totally unsuitable to governance, because insecurities, incompetence and ineptitude are masked behind this raw abuse of power. It also sends the signal to the population that the leadership is at a loss.

Insecure leaders are uncomfortable with competent people around them, which invariably leads to the eventual firing. Ultimately, all the capable people would be removed and replaced by cronies and yes-men.

In 2010-15, our then prime minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar had a similar record of firing.

Trump may soon have to hear the words that Persad-Bissessar and many of his reality TV contestants were told, “You’re fired.”
