Great service at govt offices

THE EDITOR: Like many others, I have had my share of poor service at government offices so it’s only fair to mention my pleasant experience at two offices.

The first was at the San Fernando office of the Registrar General. I went to get a copy of my birth certificate. It was about 1.30 pm so the crowd had thinned somewhat from the usual morning rush. Still, there were about ten people ahead of me.

Each stage of the three-step process was handled in a pleasant and professional manner. From the time I joined the line to the time I collected my certificate was exactly 40 minutes. Quite impressive.

The second was at the office of the National Insurance Board in Princes Town. Not much of a crowd there but, again, the service was prompt, pleasant, efficient and professional.

While the young woman was processing my papers, two other members of the public arrived. A young man quickly appeared at an empty service bay to deal with the next in line. In many offices, including private ones, the thinking would have been, “Ah, let them wait.” But not here.

From all appearances, this was just how they operate on a daily basis. I look forward to the day when all service providers (public and private) in TT could provide the level of service I experienced at these two offices, when good service is the rule rather than the exception.
