AIDAN CARTER needed three sets to defeat top seed Akiel Duke to capture the men’s singles crown, in the Shell/Tranquillity Open Tennis Tournament yesterday.

The final day of the two-week long event took place at the Tranquillity Tennis Courts, Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain.

But Carter held his nerves, under glorious sunshine, to triumph 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Richard McLetchie was awarded the veteran’s singles title courtesy a walkover victory over Kendall Cuffy while the pair of Nabeel Mohammed and Vaughn Wilson took the men’s doubles trophy after a three-set result over Dexter Mahase and Keshan Moonasar.
