Raid at drug den near Deyalsingh office

TWO men were fined for marijuana possession last Friday after they were held during a raid at known drug den near the constituency office of St Joseph MP Terrence Deyalsingh.

Afida Moraldo and Kwesi Sutherland, 19, both from Mt Lambert were arrested on Thursday at 10 pm by officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force.

The exercise was coordinated by head of North Eastern Division Snr Supt Sagramsingh and included ASP Sooker, Insp James, Sgt Guelmo, Cpl Majid and Cpl Lavia.

Moraldo and Sutherland appeared before a PoS magistrate the following day charged with possession of marijuana and both pleaded guilty.

Moraldo, who was held with 58 grammes of marijuana was fined $10,000 while Sutherland, who was held with 42 grammes, was fined $3,000.

Both were ordered to pay within a month.

On Tuesday last, during a police town meeting at the St Joseph Community Centre, a member of the public complained about drugs being sold openly near MP Deyalsingh’s constituency office.

The MP later confirmed that he made a report about the issue to police.

Deyalsingh, via text message, congratulated the police on their action in keeping the Mt Lambert community drug free on behalf of the law abiding citizens of the area.

“This demonstrates what collaboration between citizens, police and their MP can achieve,” Deyalsingh said.
