Suruj: Plastic cabbage on sale

FAKE cabbage made of plastic is on sale in Trinidad, complained Tabaquite MP Dr Suruj Rambachan in the Lower House on Friday.

“Plastic cabbage is being sold in the market. I have it in my office. Somebody bought it and brought it to me. This issue of plastic rice and plastic cabbage is a real issue.”

His revelation came as he moved a motion on the adjournment urging help for local crop farmers and the use of the Brickfield Packing House in his constituency to service a future, improved teak industry.

Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat in reply hailed Rambachan as one of the best ever lecturers he had ever had at university, who had even once supplied him with books, just like Chaguanas East MP Fazal Karim.

However the minister did not view Rambachan’s motion as valid, as he related once seeing a magazine, The Vine, featuring Rambachan and former minister Devant Maharaj launching that very facility. He wondered aloud if there were two such packing houses. Rambharath read aloud the magazine article detailing Namdevco’s account of the launch of the facility. “My friend must not mislead the country, nor spread fake news.” Rambharat then related himself doing a multimillion upgrade of the Debe Market, plus upgrading the Norris Deonarine Market at Macoya.
