Ramesh eyes Law Association

FORMER Attorney General Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj, SC, will contest the presidency of the Law Association when the law body’s membership goes to the poll next month.

The nomination for Maharaj’s candidacy was delivered to the Law Association’s secretariat yesterday, in keeping with the Friday deadline for completed nomination forms. Members of the council are elected each year at an annual general meeting held in March, for a term of one year.

Incumbent president, Douglas Mendes, SC, was elected unopposed for the 2017 term, last year. Maharaj’s nomination has received the support of several attorneys, including members of the inner bar.
