FINALISTS in the International Soca Monarch competition final were all upbeat during the draw for singing positions held yesterday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Reigning Soca Monarch Voice (Aaron St Louis) told Newsday: “I am going into the finals feeling very confident.

“It’s all about the job and getting it done, and making sure the message is sent. This is the year for love, and by all means that is what I’m going to spread. Win, lose or draw, once that message is sent across we will be satisfied.”

Voice will be singing in the penultimate position at the Hasely Crawford Stadium this Fantastic Friday night.

The youngest singer in the competition, Aaron Duncan, said he too felt confident and very proud to be in the final. “I am just going there to have fun and do my best.”

The St George’s College student will sing in second spot.

The only female finalist, Jadel (Jardine Legere), said: “Going into the final is a very overwhelming experience. I never thought I would have made it this far. I am hoping to place in the top four.” Jadel takes the stage in fifth position.

Farmer Nappy (Darryl Henry) said going into the final is a pleasure for him, adding: “If you are not going there to win, don’t go into a competition. But my chances are up there in the first three.”

Asten Isaac, who will be teaming up with fellow artistes Rikki Jai (Samlal Jaimungal), Yankey Boy (Kevon Heath) and Ola (Olatunji Yearwood), said on behalf of the group that they too were all excited. “We are going to put out our best effort, give a good account of ourselves and the crowd would have a wonderful time. I can guarantee that.”

First-timer in the competition Ambi (Ambrose Joseph) out of St Lucia said he is here to do his best, and Rome (Jerome Precilla) feels after he puts on a good show his chances will be as good as anyone else’s.

M1 (Sherwin Jeremiah) will lead off the competition while Barbadian Marzville (Omar Mc Quilkin) will sing in twelfth position.

Spokesman for Caribbean Prestige Foundation, event promoter Peter Lewis said all efforts will be made to start the show at the scheduled 8 pm.
