TRINIDADIAN Len Peters has been honoured by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for exceptional voluntary service protecting endangered turtle species with a Commonwealth Point of Light award.

In a release on Thurtsday from the British High Commission it was reported in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London on April 19 to 20, Her Majesty The Queen - as Head of the Commonwealth - has thanked inspirational volunteers across the 52 Commonwealth nations for the difference they are making in their communities and beyond.

Peters is a turtle conservationist and chairman of the Grande Riviere Nature Tour Guide Association who protects 20,000 turtle nests every year.

"Thanks to his educational work in local communities and regular patrols of the beaches, Trinidad and Tobago is now home to one of the densest leatherback nesting beaches in the world," the commission stated.
