The renovations to the Hilton pool and deck facilities have cost government $7.6 million, the Ministry of Trade and Industry has said.

In a release yesterday, Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon said the completed work reveals "an aesthetically pleasing and welcoming space" that will improve the user experience and safety. It is the facility's first upgrade in 53 years, she added. "It is important that the government reinvests to ensure the maintenance of international standards and increase the hotel’s value and marketability,” Gopee-Scoon said. The property, located off the Lady Young Road in St Ann's, is owned by the government but operated by international hotel chain Hilton Worldwide. This is a similar arrangement to the Hyatt, where the government owns the buildings that constitute the Waterfront Complex off Wrightson Road, but the hotel is operated by Hyatt Hotels. The work was overseen by the Evolving Tecknologies and Enterprise Development Company (eTecK). Chairman Imtiaz Ahamad said the refurbishment is just the latest on a series of planned upgrades. These works were necessary, he said, so the hotel could maintain its international 4.5 star rating. The works include a raised jacuzzi, an adult tanning ledge, a children’s pool, three cabanas, a water fountain with LED lights, upgraded mechanical, electrical and plumbing services and equipment, a new audio system, a salt water treatment system and a new reinforced fibre concrete pool deck patterned in the form of a steel pan mural.
