New office space for DPP

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) will rent office space at Gulf City Mall in La Romaine and Lowlands in Tobago, for monthly rental fees of $248,722 and $61,965 respectively. Leader of Government Business Franklin Khan made this announcement in the Senate last week.

Khan explained both fees are VAT exclusive. While the standard duration of state leases is three years, Khan said he could not say whether this was the case in these instances.

He told senators, the Office of the DPP approved both office spaces and instructed that a lease agreement be engaged. Khan said the DPP’s Office in San Fernando should be relocated to Gulf City, La Romaine by June. He identified March 1 as the date when the DPP’s office in Tobago should be relocated to Gulf City in Lowlands, Tobago.

Khan said the service charges for the office spaces in La Romaine and Lowlands were $78,698 and $47,568 VAT exclusive, respectively. He said service charges include charges for security, maintenance, electricity and water. Earlier in the sitting, Rural Development and Local Government Minister Kazim Hosein said the process of acquiring land for the Moruga fishing port has been transferred from his ministry to the Works and Transport Ministry.
