Youngsters, please listen to your parents before it’s too late. This was the message from Bertram Adams, father of murder victim Luke “Prince Luke” Adams, at his son’s funeral yesterday. The service was held at David Guide Funeral Home, Piccadilly Street, Port of Spain.

“I have another son, 11, and I don’t want the same thing to happen to him,” said Adams. “I want to try harder and give it my all in life to ensure that he doesn’t venture into anything close to the life Luke lived. If you continue to go as how you are going now, a lot of you would not have a future in time to come.

“My words of encouragement to you here today: please listen to your parents and try to do what they tell you to do, or else you all can end up just as my son.

I would not want that to happen to nobody child, son or daughters who are out here in support of my son today.

“I really tried to work with my son. But I am also appealing to those who have the ability to do more for the youth of the nation before it is too late.”

As all the mourners wept while Adams was making his plea, students from South East Secondary, Providence, Tranquillity and Mucurapo East Secondary schools lined the outside of the chapel, as there was no room to house them inside the building.

Mourners could be seen peeping through cracks in the building, while others stood in dismay on the roof and at the side of the road.

Adams died last Thursday when he tried to escape gunfire from a gang member while driving along Duke Street, Port of Spain.

He was shot several times in the chest before losing control of the car and crashed into a traffic light.
