Cops search for ex-con bandit

Police searched several houses in Diego Martin and Arouca yesterday in an attempt to arrest an ex-prisoner who robbed a gas station employee of $46,000 last week Tuesday.

The former inmate who dropped his cell phone during the robbery, was contacted by police hours later and instructed to surrender. The man promised to do so last Saturday, but failed to show.

Yesterday, a joint team of officers from Northern and Western Divisions searched for the suspect. Following the robbery, officers contacted the suspect’s mother who promised to ask him son to contact the police.

Sources said the man is wanted in connection with several armed robberies along the East West corridor and is believed to be a member of a gang responsible for robberies stretching from Carenage in the west to Sangre Grande in the east.

Two Tuesdays ago, at 11.45 am, an employee at a NP gas station in San Raphael was leaving with a bag containing $46,000, when he attacked by the ex-con and robbed.
