One hundred and seventy-five employees under the Mechanical Transport department, drivers, Rodent Control, Leeward District, Windward District, Kalamazoo and Checkers department attached to the Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development under the Tobago House Assembly (THA) have been paid.

The employees finally received their payments on Friday, following a promise made by the Secretary for the Division Agatha Carrington, after they engaged in protest action last Monday on the compound of the new Health building at Highmoor Road.

Negotiator to the National Union of Government and Federated Workers, Kenneth Thomas, “It was promised by Monday that everybody will be paid. My concern is whether or not all payments was sent out on Friday. Once it is sent out, when they will be paid will be determined by the bank they are attached to.”

The daily paid workers gathered outside the new health, Habib Building, last Tuesday morning to protest after waiting over three fortnights for outstanding wages.

The Secretary revealed the delay was as a result of several administrative challenges.
