Still paying for statement

THE EDITOR: In September last year I requested e-statements only for my credit card and it was acknowledged by the bank that I would no longer incur paper statement charges. However, my January bill reflected a fee of $4.50.

I reported this to the bank and, to my surprise, the customer representative on the phone admitted she noticed the wrongful charge on her account as well but didn’t know it affected other customers until my call. She escalated my report and the day after I checked my online banking and noticed the fee was reversed.

However, I am still required to make the $4.50 payment by my due date of January 30. The reversal will be reflected on my February bill instead. I was told by the bank that because credit card statements are automatically generated it is unable to update my January statement to reflect the reversal and that if I don’t pay the $4.50 by the due date I will be charged interest.

I highlight this so customers can take note and hopefully the relevant authorities would investigate.
