Port of Spain City Police and the Organised Crime Narcotics and Firearms Bureau are investigating reports of a suspected drug ring, Supt Glenn Charles said during a press conference at City Hall on Thursday.

The investigation comes after police seized approximately $15,000 worth of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia at the corporation’s Mucurapo Road transport yard. Charles said they believe its merely the tip of the iceberg.

“Its an ongoing investigation, but what I can say is that part of the information we received is that this is bigger than what we’re seeing here, because we’re looking at the main distributors of the drugs.”

The raid was just “a small dent in the entire operation,” he said.

Among the items seized were a scale used to weigh the marijuana, seeds, a grinder resembling a hand grenade and a diary which contains a list of possible names of clients, transactions and other information deemed important. The raid, which took place on Wednesday from 4 am-8 am, involved both the city police and the PoS Task Force, as well as support from the canine unit. The drugs were stashed in several different hiding spots, including abandoned lockers, vehicles and grassy areas.
